    The city of Des Arc, the county seat of Prairie County, is located approximately 30 miles northwest of Brinkley. The city name is derived from the French phrase "at the curve". Each June, Des Arc hosts the Steamboat Days Festival. As of the 2000 census, Des Arc had a population of 1,717 residents.
